Christmas Gift Ideas: Friends

As I stood and watched the fireworks finale I could almost hear the Christmas songs singing in my head. As with Autumn we seem to switch from Halloween to Christmas overnight! But I'm not complaining...I LOVE Christmas! However many people hate hate hate it and having to buy gifts can be very stressful so I thought I would put a few of my ideas together to share with you.
Hope these inspire you to crack on with your shopping.

I'm going to begin with what I think are suitable gift ideas for your friends:

1. Pyjamas

I personally don't think you can go wrong with some nightwear, (or if you're like me "wear everytime I have chance" wear! They're something that everyone wears and you can get them almost everywhere. ( Large pic: Next. From top to bottom: New Look, Tesco, Tesco)

2. Photo frame

If you've been friends for a long time there's no doubt you will have hundreds of photos together. Get a couple of your favourite ones and put them in a nice frame. It's nice to have a mixture of old ones and newer ones. (Asda, The Range)

3. A mug

I personally believe everyone needs their own mug. There are literally hundreds on the market and you can find one that suits your friends taste perfectly. These are just a few of my favourites.

4. A collection

Some people are just really hard to buy for so why not just spend a little on a lot. You could find a really nice gift box, pack it with shredded tissue and then go out and buy lots of little things instead of one big present.

5. Think practical!

Are they a sports fanatic? Perhaps a new water bottle.
Are they moving house? Something for their new home.
Going on holiday? Some travel minis, or some currency.
Busy mum? Something to help them relax, a candle, bubble bath, or a couple of hours child free!

And there we go, 5 simple and not so expensive gift ideas for those of you that might be struggling a little! I really hope these give you some inspiration.

Should I do more? For Mum/Dad?

Happy Shopping!

Autumn in the country

Today was a beautifully warm and sunny day so as all of my family had the day off we decided to venture out and enjoy the countryside. We parked the car and walked 3 miles along the Cleveland way to a ruined abbey and back again. Don't get me wrong, at some points during the walk I had to question myself and think why do we go walking?! There's lots of hills and it can sometimes feel like forever, but once I get into my stride I love walking in the country. You can feel like your miles away from the city even though you only travelled a short distance and I love getting lots of fresh air. Here are some photos I captured from today(mostly of my sister as I was behind the camera) which I thought I would share with you, hope you enjoy!

Do you prefer a country walk or a day in the city?

The British Tag

Hello :)

Hope everyone is enjoying October so far! Here's a quick tag post for you all about being British... God save the Queen!!

1. How many cups of tea so do you have a day? + How many sugars?
well...I am 100% British, but I don't like tea!! Criminal I know.

2. Favourite part of your roast?
Yorkshire puddings without a doubt.

3. Favourite dunking biscuit?
Seen as though I don't drink tea I rarely dunk biscuits. However... a KitKat dunked in any warm beverage (Tea/Hot Chocolate etc ) is heavenly.

4. Favourite quintessentially British past time?
Not sure if it classes as "quintessential" but I love going to the beach when it's cold and getting all wrapped up. The beach is usually somewhere you associate with warm weather but lots of British people go in the winter! I think it's more enjoyable in the winter than in the summer!

5. Favourite word?
Being from Yorkshire there are lots of words in my vocabulary that other people in Britain wouldn't understand never mind people from over seas and I love them all! Ee by gum, scran and mafting are just a few examples.

6. Cockney rhyming slang?
Apples and pairs? That's about it

7. Favourite sweet?
Do chocolate raisins count as sweets?

8. What would your pub be called?
The Yorkshire something(?)  Got to stay true to your roots !

9. No.1 British person?
It's got to be Kate Middleton, I absolutely love her, her hair, fashion, family and how she came from a normal background. Just a lovely lady.   ohh and her wedding dress was AMAZING.

10. Favourite shop/restaurant?
I really like the little independent shops we usually stumble into on different holidays across the country.
Same with restaurants really, the cute little tea shops with amazing cakes and home cooked grub!

11. What British song pops into your head?
God Save the Queen + Swing low, sweet chariot...don't ask?!

12. Marmite?
NO.

I tag anyone who is British!
Thanks for reading,

Could you be happy for 100 days?

Everyone can have down days, it's human nature. Sometimes things just don't quite go your way, making you feel rotten. I often stumble across these "rotten" days. I let the slightest thing panic or annoy me which really influences my mood. So when I began to see the #100happydays circulate on Instagram I thought what a nice idea, maybe I should do that? So in the middle of February I uploaded "Day 1- Fresh sheets. #100happydays" I had no idea if I would be able to stick at it for 100 days but I was determined!
And I did it, 3 and a bit months later I posted my final image feeling very content in the fact I had managed to complete it!
It may not sound like everyone's cup of tea, uploading a digital image everyday for a 100 days but it really did help me appreciate the little things in life. I'm not going to lie, there were some days I sat at home thinking "what one earth am I going to put today?!" but that is why it is such an uplifting thing to do. No matter how rubbish I was feeling I proved to myself that I could still find something, somewhere to be happy about (even if it was just food!!).
It's one of those things that you think "oh well it doesn't matter if I miss today, no-one is actually bothered by it" but you have to do it for yourself and not for others. You have to prove to yourself that there is always reason to be happy. :D
So, if you think you're one of those people who can sometimes walk around thinking the whole world is against you. Someone who has a mind full of negativity instead of positivity. Maybe you should give the #100happydays a go?!

Here are a few examples of my 100 days of being happy.

Day 34 - Had a fantastic day at Go Ape swinging through the trees!

Day 37 - Walking in the sunshine in Alnmouth
Day 45 - Beautiful walk around Harlow Carr followed by a gorgeous ice-cream from Bettys
Day 14 - Sun and Sunday lunch...favourite kind of Sunday

Day 15 - One Born Every Minute & Toblerone

Day 65 - Riding to work is sooo much nicer when it's sunny :)

I really hope this has inspired some of you to have a go. Even if you don't want to post daily on Instagram perhaps you could write them down or even just make an effort to think of one reason a day. Let me know how you get along.

Stay happy!

Autumn/Winter Primark Haul

Hello!
If you read my last blog post you will be aware that I really like this time of year and everything that comes with it. However one of the main, most obvious reasons I like it is because you get to wear autumny/wintery (?) clothes!
So last week as well as delving into last years purchases, which the majority I had forgotten about I also thought it was about time I went and checked out what Primark had to offer! My city doesn't have a Primark (yet!) so when I want to go I have to make a day of it (an even better excuse to go, in my eyes!!) Sometimes I go in there and find nothing but as you will see there were definitely a few thing that caught my eye!

 1. Tartan scarf - This is actually reversible, 2 for the price of 1! It's a really thick, snuggly scarf perfect for freezing mornings! £6

2. Heart jumper - Sometimes Primark jumpers can feel a bit..meh. Which usually puts me off but this one is super soft and super comfy. £14

3. Jumper with collar - This is my favorite item that I bought because I always try and layer my jumpers with the few shirts I have but I never seem to pull it off! But with this little number it's already done for me!

4. Khaki jersey jumper - Not going to lie this photo doesn't really do this jumper justice but it's super soft and perfect to go with leggings. It's also got a zip going down the back. £10

5. Giraffe onesie - Random purchase but you can't have too many onesies can you!? £11

Hope that gave you a bit of an idea what's available in Primark if you've not had chance to pop in yet. All I need now is the weather to cool down so I can actually where them!

Sweater weather tag

Good afternoon everyone!
Hope you're enjoying your week so far!

As some of you may know I came back from my holidays at the very end of August so my first day back at home was September 1st and everything changed! My family went back to work and school, it started to get darker earlier, the temperature dropped slightly (although it is gorgeous sunshine outside at the moment!) and all the shops changed to autumn/winter fashion. It's like we changed from summer to autumn over night! I'm not complaining though, I love this time of year when it starts to get colder and you can put on your woolly jumpers and sit in front of the fire. With that in mind I thought I would do the "sweater weather tag" to get me even more in the mood!

Here we go...

1. Favourite candle scent? I only own one which is the Seychelles candle from The White Company and it smells divine.

2. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate? Hot chocolate everytime! With cream and marshmallows preferably.

3. What's your favourite Autumn memory? I don't have one specific memory but I love walks on the beach with my family when it's cold, and I have lots of good memories of going to firework displays with my grandparents.

4. Which makeup trend do you prefer, dark lips or winged eyeliner? I don't use eyeliner or lipstick so can't really comment!

5. Best fragrance for Autumn? To be honest...whatever I have!!

6. Favourite Autumn food? It's got to be mashed potato! I know most people eat this all year around but it's even better when you've been out in the cold all day and just need something to warm you up!

7. What is the autumn weather like where you live? Cooler and wetter but we get the odd cool day with lots of sunshine and those are the best.

8. Most worn sweater? My green chunky knit cardigan from Ark a few years ago.

9. Must-have nail polish for autumn? Dark green

10. Game of football or jumping in a pile of leaves? Jumping in leaves 100%, you can play football any time of year?!

11. Skinny jeans or leggings? ooo difficult, depends where I'm going/ what I'm doing!

12. Combat boots or Uggs? Uggs simply because they keep your feet so toasty!

13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?  Pardon?!

14. Favourite Autumn TV show? I'm going to say Strictly Come Dancing as I think I'll really get into it this year.

15. What song gets you in the Autumn spirit? Katy Perry - Firework. Don't think there's been a bonfire night since it's been released that I haven't heard it.

Brrrr I feel cold just talking about autum/winter!
Hopefully it will be an exciting time of year.

What do you look forward to in autumn?
I tag anyone who want's to get into the autumn spirit!

Mes vacances français

Bonjour!
I'm back from my adventure in France with my family and a few friends. It's so nice to just pack up and leave everything else behind, travel away and relax for a few weeks! Don't get my wrong our holiday didn't run as smoothly as we had hoped it would (major car issues!/ended up flying home!!) but it was still nice to have a change of scenery and spend time with family before everyone slots back into normal work/school routines.

It was quite a varied holiday ranging from chilling by the pool, walking around the local city and cycling all the way round the lake! Here a few snapshots I thought I would share with you.

Even if you only go for a few days or just a short distance from home. A holiday can make you feel refreshed, relaxed and recharged.
Hope this has given you a brief insight into my summer holiday.
Have you been away this summer? Where have you been?!

July Haul

Hello everyone!
Sorry for the slight pause in blog posts I just had to find some time!!

Thought I would share with you some products I've picked up and loved over the last month. Bit of a random mix of items but hope you enjoy having a browse!

Nike Trainers - Sports Direct
I bought these trainers as my others were getting pretty old and tired and I absolutely love them! They arrived a few days before I ran 10k for charity and I was worried they would hurt my feet but they were a dream and helped me all the way round! They are incredibly light, it feels like you're walking on the clouds!

Tresemme Shampoo & Conditioner - Boots
I'm a sucker for a bargain so when I saw these on offer (I think they were half price) in Boots I snapped them up immediately! I love these because the shampoo lathers up really easily and leaves my hair smelling and looking squeaky clean!

Floral Skater Dresses - H&M
Floral Dress - New Look
As well as bargains...I'm a sucker for a skater dress. They're the only ones that seem to suite me well therefore I just keep adding to my collection. The top two are from H&M and it was the patterns that caught my eye, I prefer smaller, ditsy prints in comparison to bolder ones. I just thought they would look lovely in the summer with sandles and also in the winter with tights and boots. The dress below is from New Look I had seen it previously when it was new in and thought it looked nice but didn't really like the price so when I saw it in the sale for £12 I picked it up feeling pleased that I hadn't bought it straight away!

Aqua boost sorbet - The Body Shop
Finally, you may have seen this in my previous wish list post. Funnily enough I walked past The Body Shop the day I wrote that post so thought I would pop in and see what the fuss is about! I really like this moisturizer as it is just a bit different to the usual white and creamy ones. This is so much lighter and does feel like you are hydrating your face with sorbet! I was recommended to put it in the fridge and use it cold, sounds odd but I will definitely try that when I'm on holiday!

And that's my purchases for the month! Have you bought any exciting items this month!?
I'm going on holiday now for a few weeks so I'll be back with some exciting photos from my jollies.

Hope you're all enjoying your summer!

August Wish List

Well summer is well and truly here! The sun is out and boy it's warm! (we're not quite used to this in England!)
I've not posted in while so thought I would share with you my wish list, a few items that I've been thinking about getting but haven't go round to it yet or have talked myself out of.

1. The Body Shop's Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet
Before even seeing this product the name just makes it sound like the best moisturizer ever, it sounds like something you would want to drink! I've seen some Youtubers using the Clinique moisture surge and absolutely swearing by it but for me it was too pricey so I would really like to try this as to me it looks as though it would be similar.

2. Cath Kidston Fold Away Barrel Bag
I quite often browse the Cath Kidston website, especially when the new collection is released. So when the autumn products went live I had a look straight away and found this super cute bag with the ditsy floral pattern. Now...I don't really need a new bag nor do I know when I would use it? But surely you can never have too many bags?! I just love the pattern and it folds away into a tiny little pouch!

3. Zara floral trousers
I love the colour of these trousers and they look super comfy! I already have a pair of patterned trousers from Next which I wear all the time so wanted another pair. However...I saw lots of people wearing these but never new where to get them until I was browsing the sale in Zara and there they were! Two pairs tucked away in the corner, "FAB!" I thought, even better "they're in the sale!". Sure enough not my size :(
I've scoured the sale on the website too and can't find them! So these are still on my wishlist despite the fact I really don't think there's any left! (If anyone finds them...let me know!!)

4. L'occitane Cherry Blossom Eau de Toilette
I'm not very adventurous when it comes to fragrance, I've been using this perfume for roughly the last 4 years just replacing it when it runs out. But I love it so much I'm not brave enough to try something new!(Is it just me?!) I'm going to Paris in the summer so I think I might treat myself and pop in!

What's on your wish list this summer?
Hope you're all enjoying the sun and having a relaxing break!

Quick & Simple fruit muffins!

I like the idea of baking, but when it gets round to it I always put it off! (sometimes it's just to faffy and I HATE the cleaning up!!) But this morning I had a few spare hours so got stuck in. My dad brought home some blueberries yesterday so I thought muffins would be ideal! They actually turned out ok bearing in mind I haven't baked since school.
Here's the recipe if you want to make some muffins in no time at all!

You will need:
  • 300g Plain flour
  • 3 Teaspoons of baking powder
  • 115g Caster sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 300ml Milk
  • 85ml Sunflower oil
  • Fruit - Obviously I used blueberries but you could use any fresh fruit (brambles, raspberries,)
  • 12 Muffin cases

 1. Set oven to 180 or gas 6
2. Grease inside the paper cases , I just dipped my
brush into the oil I had already measured out
3.In a large mixing bowl, sieve the flour and baking powder.
    Then add in the sugar.

 4. In a smaller bowl mix the oil, egg and milk together using a fork.

5. Add to the flour mixture all at once and beat until smooth.

 6. Stir in your chosen fruit
 7. Divide the mixture evenly between the cases. I then sprinkled an extra little bit of brown sugar on the top to add a bit of crunch.
 8. Bake in the oven for 25-30 mins or until golden brown.

 9. Leave to cool for a few mins in the tin, then place the muffins on a cooling rack.

Hope this inspires some of you to get back into baking! Let me know if you try the recipe, perhaps you will use different fillings?

Thanks for reading!

Le Tour Yorkshire - Grand Départ 2014

Back in December 2012 Yorkshire won the bid to host the world's biggest annual sporting event... the Tour de France and boy were we excited! The county have been counting down the days ever since and last week the day finally arrived!
I loved seeing the whole of Yorkshire come together to watch such a spectacular event, every street was covered in bunting and yellow bicycles. We really did turn Yorkshire yellow!
Here are some photos for you to enjoy in case you missed out on the big day!

These were all taken a few days before but luckily my dad manged to capture some the actual race too!

Free Haribo!

One of the riders wearing the famous yellow jersey

and off they went on the rest of their journey!

Did you manage to catch a glimpse of the race? What did you think?!
Thanks for reading!
